Claiming an impressive three wins and two places from just seven competitive starts to date, Belle De Coeur has been nominated for an appearance in the 2014 Moreton Stakes.

A standout performer over his maiden preparation in the autumn and winter of 2013, Belle De Coeur was unlucky to finish second on debut in the Goulburn Workers Club Fillies Maiden (1200m), but responded in the best way possible when claiming back-to-back victories and finishing second in the Development Fund Fillies (1200m) on June 1st to close the memorable campaign.

While yet to claim a race win this season, the Show A Heart mare has stepped up in class to contest events mainly at Group level, stamping her claims as one to watch this year with a hard-fought third in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) on April 19th most notably.

Also included in nominations for the 2014 Moreton Stakes is impressive Peter Moody-trained sprinter Plucky Belle.

Claiming a total of four wins and six places from 20 competitive starts to date, Plucky Belle performed well over just three starts in spring; finishing second in the Group 3 Nivison (1200m) first-up and a strolling home to win the Group 3 Lavazza Short Black (1400m) on Melbourne Cup day most notably.

Unlucky when blocked for a run twice and squeezed out to finish second in the Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes (1200m) first-up on March 29th, the Mossman mare produced a strong turn of foot burst from the rear of the pack and finish fourth in the Sapphire Stakes before once again finishing just off the pace in second in the Group 3 Darley Crown (1300m) last time out.

With a likely appearance in the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) on May 1st looming, Plucky Belle is more than a chance of success this weekend if offered a clear racing line rounding onto the final straight of the 2014 Moreton Stakes.

Strolling home to win the Listed Juanmo Stakes (1200m) and a fourth consecutive victory last weekend, Srikandi is likely to jump resounding favourite in this weekend’s Moreton Stakes, and will be a particularly tough prospect if in prime position 300 metres from the post.

Claiming a total of five wins and one second from just six competitive starts to date, the Dubawi filly has been one of the standout performers over the 2014 racing calendar so far, and while arguably facing her biggest test to date in the Moreton Stakes, has more than earned her position in the Group 3’s field in winning two listed events in her two most recent starts.

A possibility to pay a late entry fee and contest the major Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) on June 7th, trainer Ciaron Maher is confident of another impressive showing from Srikandi this weekend.

Strolling home to win the Group 3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes (1200m) first-up on February 1st, Mick Price has confirmed Jazz Song will contest her first race in Brisbane this weekend, and is confident of success after the exciting three-year-old finished second to Group 1 champion Miracles Of Life in the Group 2 Euclase Stakes (1200m) last time out.

A final field of 16 and barrier draw for the 2014 Moreton Stakes is due to be released on Wednesday morning.
