An exceptional list of 15 fillies and mares has been confirmed to line up for a tilt at the 2014 Group 3 Moreton Stakes (1350m) at Doomben Racecourse this weekend, highlighted by several runners nominated for proceeding Group 1 events during the 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival.

A standout performer over the 2013 spring, Perth-based raider Platinum Rocker has been confirmed in the final field of the 2014 Moreton Stakes.

Claiming an impressive total of eight wins and four places from just 14 competitive race starts to date, Platinum Rocker has fast shot to the forefront of the current crop of Western Australian racehorses and is a noted performer in winter events, having finish worse than second just once in three starts during the 2013 season.

Arguably hitting career best form over spring, the Love A Dane mare strolled home to win the Listed Birthday Stakes (1200m) on October 5th, continuing to build in form and class with another impressive victory in the Group 3 Asian Beau Stakes (1400m) and finishing an unlucky second in the major Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) most notably on November 23rd.

With an appearance in the featured Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) on June 7th looming, trainer Simon Miller is confident of a polished performance from Platinum Rocker this weekend, particularly after drawing the ideal barrier 6.

Also included in the final field for the 2014 Moreton Stakes is exciting five-year-old Plucky Belle.

Charged with the unenviable task of overcoming the wide and awkward barrier 15, Plucky Belle’s chances in the 2014 Moreton Stakes took a huge boost when confirmed to be partnered by talented jockey Luke Nolen.

Unlucky not to claim a race win from three starts this time in, the Mossman mare was blocked for a run twice and squeezed out to finish second by a nose in the Group 3 Birthday Card Stakes (1200m) first-up on March 29th, and while unable to handle the heavy going and fourth in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m), returned to competitive form when finish second in the Group 3 Darley Crown (1300m) last time out.

An exciting prospect from sprint events throughout spring, trainer Peter Moody has revealed a return to the spelling paddock may be on the cards for Plucky Belle following the Moreton Stakes, or a final tilt at the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) if successful.

Aiming for an impressive fifth straight victory when lining up for the 2014 Moreton Stakes this weekend, Srikandi will have to overcome the awkward barrier 14 if to continue her scintillating run of form.

Claiming five wins and one second from her six competitive starts to date, Srikandi arguably faces her toughest test to date in the Moreton Stakes, but has more than earned her position as a leading contender after comfortably doing away with race fields in the majority of her proceeding appearances.

Ecstatic with the way the talented filly has taken to the trip to Brisbane and the opposite way of going, trainer Mick Price is confident of victory for Jazz Song in the 2014 Moreton Stakes.

Claiming two wins and one place from just five starts to far, Jazz Song has returned to racing in great order this time in; winning the Group 3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes (1200m) first-up, and while unlucky to be blocked for a run in the Listed Manhi Classic (1050m) on March 29th, returned to peak form when second behind Miracles Of Life in the Group 2 Sportingbet Stakes (1200m) last time out.

Allocated the ideal barrier 6, the Fastnet Rock filly will be partnered by champion jockey Damien Oliver and is a great chance of success in the Moreton Stakes.
